First-Time Attendee Tips

  • Stay at the conference lodging.  If you want a roommate, consider posting on the private ABC Facebook page.
  • Arrive a few hours early to settle in comfortably; stay for the entire conference.
  • Volunteer at the registration desk and meet new people.
  • Attend the First Time Attendee gathering over breakfast Thursday and hear from the ABC President and ABC Interim Executive Director.
  • Participate in a workshop or an excursion to make even more connections.
  • Take care of yourself.  Consider gentle stretching and meditation.  Make good choices; allow time to process your thoughts and take time for a bit of quiet each day.  Enjoy fresh air and exercise. Get enough sleep.
  • If you need a friend or mentor, look for someone wearing an ABC Ambassador button; you will discover seasoned ABC members who are happy to "show you the ropes."

Workshops

Workshops are 2-to 3-hour, highly interactive, themed events. Participants will walk away with a new approach to teaching, researching, or consulting in the realm of business communication.

Venue

Venue - Onsite

Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, 2900 Bayport Drive, Tampa, Florida, USA

Terrific room rates!  Free parking!  Free guestroom internet!  No resort fees!

The resort hotel, with lush grounds, fronts a 35-acre nature preserve with mangroves extending to North Tampa Bay, yet it is just a five-minute ride from the Tampa International Airport (TPA). Some discount airlines also fly into St. Petersburg International Airport (PIE)--about 15 miles away. Enjoy birdwatching from the boardwalk, a dip in the swimming pools, ping pong in the sand, tennis, basketball, bike riding, or find a hammock in the shade. Sit down to eat (or order ahead) at 1823, the hotel restaurant. On the grounds for dining is Oystercatchers; reservations are a must for this award-winning seafood restaurant. For off-site restaurants, services, and shopping grab a cab or social transit. Tampa is about 30 minutes from St. Pete Beach, which is the Tripadvisor #1 America's Top 25 Beaches for 2021.
