  • Is the conference venue fully accessible?

o   Does the hotel offer a breastfeeding room?  Yes, contact the hotel for access to the breastfeeding room. It is equipped with a refrigerator.

o   Are the outer doors to the venue automatic? There is a revolving door at the main entrance that is automatic. There is a button on both the inside and outside of the door to push to slow the turning of the door. No other outer doors are automatic.  While the space inside the revolving door is generally ample, it may not be large enough for a wheelchair.  Door and valet staff are stationed at the front entrance.  Valet is staffed 24/7.

o   Does the hotel offer loaner wheelchairs?  The hotel has 1-2 wheelchairs available for emergency use.  They are not available for the guest's entire stay. Shan Medical Equipment https://www.shanmedical.com rents wheelchairs.  The cost is $50 for up to a month plus a $35 onetime delivery and pickup fee.  (Subject to change.)  This information is shared for user convenience.  ABC does not intend to endorse or recommend a particular vendor.

o   Is there signage in Braille? Yes

o   Does the hotel use scent machines?  Yes, but the hotel has been requested to turn off the machines in the conference area.  They expect to turn off the machines on the peak conference days.

o   Is there a designated "quiet room" in the conference area?  Yes.  A quiet room is available for those who may need a quiet spot to meditate, pray, or relieve sensory overload.

o   Do the elevators have audio that says what floor the elevator is on? No

o   Are there guest rooms with doorbells that trigger a visual flashing light? Yes

o   Are there refrigerators and microwaves in rooms so that people with special needs can store their medicine and address their needs? Each guestroom has a built-in refrigerator. There are a limited number of microwaves available for guest use due to medical reasons.

o   Is hotel near a park or grassy area for service dog relief? Yes, there is a median in front of the hotel and turf specifically for dogs in nearby Capitol Park.  Hotel can also supply complimentary dog bed and water bowl during stay.

           

o   For mobility accessible rooms:

  • Are the doors three feet wide? Yes
  • Is there a peep hole in the door at wheelchair level? Yes
  • Does the closet have a rod at wheelchair level? Yes
  • Can drapes be controlled from a wheelchair? Yes
  • Can air conditioning be controlled from a wheelchair? Yes
  • Does the room have enough space for easy wheeling? Yes
  • Are outlets easily accessible to recharge wheelchairs? Yes
  • Is the bathroom extra large to easily accommodate a wheelchair? Yes
  • Is there space for a wheelchair to back next to and be parallel to the toilet? Yes
  • Are there ample grab bars (for the toilet, shower, etc.)? Yes
  • Can a wheelchair wheel under the sink for easy use of the sink? Yes
  • Are towels placed on a rack or in a basket for easy reach? Yes
  • Is there a mirror that’s wheelchair friendly? Yes
  • Is the shower a true roll-in shower?  Yes, in a portion of the ADA rooms.
  • Does it have an opening wide enough to roll up next to?  Yes
  • Does it have a seat that a person can transfer onto laterally?  Yes
  • Are the controls for the shower within easy reach of the seat?  Yes
  • Is the shower the “telephone-type”—the shower in a holder that one can slide down and remove to make it easy to position and use to rinse? Yes
  • Is there a phone in the bathroom to call for help if necessary or some type of emergency button to contact the front desk? Yes, some of the ADA have a phone in the bathroom.

            

o   Are the restrooms for the conference rooms fully accessible?

  • Are the doors to the bathrooms automatic? Third floor restrooms do not have outer doors at all. First, second, and fourth floor restroom doors are not automatic.  A private/ADA bathroom is on floor 2-4 next to the public restrooms.
  • Is there an accessible stall wide enough for wheelchair? Yes, on all floors.
        • Does the stall door open out? On some floors, yes. Where the door opens in, there is plenty of room for a wheelchair to pass through.
        • Can the stall door be locked? Yes
        • Is there a hook on the back of the door at wheelchair height? Yes
        • Is there room in the stall to back next to the toilet? Yes
        • Are the toilet paper dispenser and seat cover dispenser within easy wheelchair reach? Yes
        • Is there at least one sink that someone in a wheelchair can roll under?  Yes
        • Are soap dispensers and hand dryers/paper towel dispensers at wheelchair height? Yes
