The Technical Communication faculty in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts on the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor for the 2018-2019 academic year. The successful candidate will provide instruction in Technical Communication courses in accordance with programmatic needs. The Technical Communication program offers a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and a graduate certificate in Technical Communication, as well as an undergraduate concentration in User Experience. Course assignments will be at the both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and may occur in a variety of modalities (online, on-ground, hybrid). The course load is determined by the faculty head and typically consists of four (4) courses a semester. There is a possibility of course reductions for significant service responsibilities, such as coordinating the Technical Communication internship program or taking a leadership role in curricular development. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the institution and profession as appropriate.
Applications should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality student-centered teaching and to staying current with the practices, technologies, and scholarship in the field of technical communication. We seek candidates whose applications demonstrate the ability to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate technical communication courses. Ideal candidates will have expertise in digital media, social media, web design/authoring, or content creation and management. Familiarity with industry-standard tools for design, content management, structured authoring, and basic web development would be a plus.
Clinical professors are fixed-term faculty members with the possibility of long-term careers at ASU based on continued excellent performance, the needs of the institution, and the availability of funding. Clinical Assistant Professors have potential for advancement to Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Professor. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure eligible, multiple-year academic appointment. The term is for more than one academic year, but not more than three academic years, and may be renewed. Salary is competitive commensurate with experience. § Terminal degree in technical or professional communication or related discipline in hand by August 1, 2018
§ Evidence of teaching effectiveness in college-level technical/professional communication courses or closely related courses
§ Demonstrated expertise with technologies for technical communication practice and for teaching
§ Ability to teach a broad range of technical communication courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels
§ Demonstrated record of continued professional development (e.g., conference presentations, service to the profession)
§ Demonstrated commitment to meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
§ Workplace experience in technical or professional communication
§ Expertise in digital media, social media, web design/authoring, or content creation and management
§ Experience mentoring graduate (master’s) students
§ Familiarity with industry-standard tools (e.g. Adobe CC, CMS, Madcap Flare, HTML/XML/CSS).
§ Experience teaching online
§ Demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
