Job Description

Northwestern University’s Cook Family Writing Program invites applications for a continuing teaching track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction, beginning September 1, 2019. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The initial contract for this position is two years.

Responsibilities include teaching six quarter-long undergraduate courses per academic year, or the equivalent, in a 2/2/2 schedule. Given current program needs, candidates should demonstrate interest in teaching Writing and Speaking in Business and/or Design Thinking and Communication (team taught in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science). Other teaching opportunities may include a first-year seminar, expository writing, and intermediate and/or advanced composition. Candidates may also have teaching and/or administrative opportunities in the peer writing centers overseen by the Cook Family Writing Program.

Academic Qualifications

Requirements include a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., rhetoric and composition, technical or business communication, English, or applied linguistics).

Experience Requirements

Preference will be given to excellent teachers who have two or more years experience teaching writing. Successful candidates may also have expertise in online/digital pedagogy, ESL/EFL writers, and/or (multi)media literacies. All candidates must have an interest in co-teaching and in working collaboratively with colleagues to develop course materials and pedagogy.
