Job Description

The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University is looking for a full-time professional writing and presentations skills instructor to deliver classes to master’s students at our Pittsburgh, PA campus. This is a nine-month (September – May) teaching track position with the potential for additional teaching for additional pay in the summer semester (June – August). Candidates should have exceptional teaching skills and communications pedagogy as well as a strong background in professional writing and professional speaking for business with organizational results. 


The goal of our writing courses is to instill our graduate students with the ability to write in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner that demonstrates an understanding of purpose, audience, and structure. Our classes focus on written communication in professional settings. 

Our presentation skills courses provide practical instruction for preparing and delivering professional presentations. Activities and assignments include developing targeted, strategic messages; creating cohesive visuals; exploring new technologies; and speaking extemporaneously. Overall, the course helps students develop confidence and apply effective techniques when speaking in public/professional settings.

Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have professional experience outside academia as well as proven skills in instruction, editing, and presentation skills. Significant classroom time, grading & editing of assignments, and tutoring of students are required. A master’s degree in a relevant field is required.
