We hope that you and yours—your family, friends, students, community—are all doing as well as can be expected during these turbulent times.
We’ve just gotten through a semester unlike anything we ever thought that we would experience. And while we fervently hope that we don’t have to repeat it, there is much for us to learn—and share—from it.
Your experiences with your students are perfect topics to share during a “How Do You Teach Diversity?” Lightning Roundtable. We take an extremely broad view of diversity and inclusion. Nearly anything that you are doing/have done to reach groups (students, community members, etc.) who would otherwise not be served would be a great fit.
If you are uncertain about your topic, just run it by us. We want to learn from and be inspired by you—and have you experience the same with us. In these times, we need all the suggestions on how to teach and practice in diverse and inclusive ways that we can get.
Here’s a little more about the lightning rounds and how you can submit. One way or another, there’ll be a way to join us.
The roundtable is a forum in which panelists—and audience--share best practices. The idea is for panelists to share an assignment in a lightning round in which each will have three to five minutes to present (depending on number of participants). The session is a good way for people to try out a new topic that they can turn into something more substantial. They then can fine tune based on feedback.
Submit the assignment title with a brief description of the assignment and an upload of your handout(s). (You may revise handout(s) later, if desired.) Be certain handout includes your name, university/affiliation (no abbreviations), and presentation title. Save as a Word document using Times New Roman 12 point font.
