Endowed by Clark Ford and Members of the Southeast Region
Background
Dr. Clarice P. Brantley was a well-respected business communication expert, educator, and textbook author. Serving the Escambia County School System, Pensacola, Florida, she also taught communication at Pensacola Junior College, now Pensacola State College.
She was also a very special person to many ABCers, but especially to those of us in the Southeast Region. Ever-present at ABC conferences, Clarice ensured new members felt welcomed and became involved, she delivered cutting-edge presentations that challenged us to think differently about business communication, and she played a significant role in the association for several years.
Clarice, along with Clark Ford—a personal friend of Clarice and her husband—hosted the 1995 and 2000 regional conferences in Nashville as well as several events at a number of regional conferences after 2000, such as the ever-popular ice cream social. When Clarice passed away in 2009, Clark led the effort to establish the “Clarice Brantley Service Award” to recognize members’ long-term service and significant support of the Southeast region.
