Testimonials
From mentor Linda Beamer, Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland, NZ
I find whenever I mentor or supervise research projects, I gain a great deal. It’s hugely satisfying when someone takes on board what you suggest, makes it her own, and produces good research. Each research project has its own dynamics and factors, and I face the challenges of how to manage them at the same time the researcher does. I learn along with the researcher.
Liddy has also been helpful to me. I have a post-grad student doing an MA thesis in intercultural communication with a focus on politeness and nonverbal requests by hotel front desk staff, and Liddy has forwarded four articles that are useful for my student. Liddy has asked if I’d be interested in doing the content analysis study with her in the future, so I may be a beneficiary of her research contacts, and we may collaborate on a publication.
From mentee Elizabeth (Liddy) Tuleja, Chinese University of Hong Kong
I have to say THANK YOU for pairing me with Linda Beamer—she has been amazing. I can’t believe how fortunate I am ! I had always admired her for her scholarship AND for being a nice person….now she is not only my mentor, but has become a good friend. She is smart ( and kind!) and challenges me to think about issues from many perspectives. This mentorship program is helping me learn and grow, and is extremely valuable to me both professionally and personally. I am grateful.
