Assistant Teaching Professor in Management (NTT)- Business Communications

The Department of Management in the Trulaske College of Business at University of Missouri (MU) invites applicants with excellent teaching credentials in business communications, with particular emphasis on business writing, for a non-tenure track (NTT), full-time teaching position. Candidates must have already completed a Ph.D. degree in a related area (preferred) or a masters degree in a related area with extensive work experience in related areas. Applicant must be available to start teaching undergraduate business communications classes on campus by August 21, 2017. Overall teaching load is considered equivalent to twelve credit hours per semester although students are spread across five sections rather than four. Each section currently only meets face-to-face for 75 minutes per week and the rest of the class is conducted online.

This position is expected to initially include teaching five sections of MANGMT 4140W Business Communications (Writing Intensive) per semester with an average of 90 students per section. The successful candidate may also have future opportunity to teach a MBA course or workshops in Business Communications. The person in this position is expected to assume active service roles related to undergraduate and/or MBA curriculum development and quality assurance at department and college levels. Availability to teach an 11-week online summer class in business communications for extra income is expected.

Key skills sought include: currency in business communications, especially business writing; ability to engage students in both face-to-face, hybrid, and completely online formats; supervisory skill in managing a team of teaching assistants; effective use of a variety of assessment methods; familiarity with learning management systems for grade management and reporting; and collegiality in service roles involving curriculum design, integration, and evaluation.

The Trulaske College of Business consists of about 65 full-time faculty members who serve approximately 5,000 undergraduates, 285 master’s students, and 35 doctoral students. The Department of Management consists of 11 tenure-track faculty members and 10 full-time teaching faculty who share a strong commitment to excellent teaching. The department includes full-time faculty with expertise in strategy, entrepreneurship, organizational behavior, human resources, business communications, operations management, management information systems, and business law.
