The Judith R. Frank Business Communication Center is seeking an Assistant Director (PCE2) essential for the effective long-term operation of the University. Primary duties are to assist the Director of the Judith R. Frank Business Communication Center, manage the day-to-day operations of the Frank Center, and participate in the administration of policies, programs, and procedures related to student clients and student employees in the Frank Center. Events and activities include but are not limited to: hiring, training and mentoring tutors; teaching the tutor training course; developing programming and delivering presentations to support students in improving communication skills; generating social media and digital content and functioning as social media community manager for the center, and creating the appointment schedules for the center. The position is a 100% time position. Responsibilities will require some time outside the 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. workday.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in English, communications studies or a related field preferred.
Reasonable experience (1 to 3 years) in higher education writing or communication centers or in higher education tutoring of English language writing and grammar/usage OR reasonable experience (1 to 3 years) writing and delivering oral presentations in a business environment. Extensive knowledge of English language composition, including grammar and usage, and working experience with current conventions of business communication and protocol (written, oral, and digital communication). Working knowledge of and proficiency with MS Office computer applications. Working knowledge of and proficiency with creating content for digital media and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and blogging software). Working experience and demonstrated success in managing a team in a workplace or academic environment. Expert written communication skills and extensive oral communication skills. Desirable Qualifications: Working experience evaluating, hiring, training, and mentoring tutorial staff. Working experience in teaching written and oral communication to English language learner populations. Working experience with online tutoring or with teaching an online course. Basic experience with WC Online or equivalent web-based scheduling and record-keeping software. Working experience in post-secondary classroom teaching. Extensive experience in business or professional (non-academic) communication. Working experience with creating visual media in the workplace.
