The metro (which is clean, efficient and non-dangerous) runs every few minutes and the trip from Kongens Nytorv takes about 10 mins. Social arrangements and tours
CONFERENCE DINNER
Thursday 26 May
The venue is on the island of Amager, so we start with a harbour tour. Embarkation from Nyhavn (bottom of Kongens Nytorv) at 19.00.
The venue is on the island of Amager, so we start with a harbour tour. Embarkation from Nyhavn (bottom of Kongens Nytorv) at 19.00.
“The tour starts from Nyhavn, a pictoresque canal with many old houses and sailing ships. Nyhavn is one of the oldest parts of the Copenhagen harbour and dates back to 1673. At the top of Nyhavn there is a large anchor, which is a monument for 1600 Danish sailors who lost their lives during the second world war.
We now approach the area of Holmen, which was the naval base of Copenhagen for more than 300 years. The old dockyard buildings are spread over four islands. One of them, Frederiksholm, now houses The Danish Film School, The Drama School, The Academy Of Rhythmic Music and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Architect School. To the left you can see "Dokøen" (the Dock Island) and "Frederiksholm" and to the right the Arsenal Island. We sail past some of the 250 year-old bastions or powder magazines, one of which – Frederiks Bastion – has been restored and converted into a small art gallery. Leaving the area of Holmen you can see Nyholm, the fourth island of Holmen, where there is still a naval college. To the right you can see the old Mast Crane from 1748, which was previously a well known landmark at the entrance to the Copenhagen harbour. Finally you can see the Battery Sixtus built in 1736 – 1744.
We are on our way to “The little Mermaid”, a surprisingly small bronze that represents the wistful main character of one of the fairy-tales written by the Danish fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. We pass the royal residence, a unique set of four Rococo palaces named Amalienborg, and enter the picturesque Christianshavn’s Canal with Our Saviour’s Church with the famous, twisted spire. Leaving Christianshavn’s Canal we see the Royal Library on the water front, across the inner harbour.”
The trip ends at the Architectural Centre (DAC) where dinner is served at 20.00. The restaurant has a fine view of the harbour and prides itself on using seasonal fresh foods. The exhibition at the centre, “Dream of Tower” about the highest towers in the world, will be open to the diners.
The sailing trip is not obligatory! It is of course quite possible to arrive by bus or from the metro station. The number of particiapnts for the conference dinner will be limited to 100.
POST-CONFERENCE-TOUR
Saturday 28 May 2005
Departure from Dalgas Have at 13.00
”The tour starts with a drive north, along the coastline towards Elsinore and Kronborg Castle, the famous setting of "Hamlet". Our guide will show us around in this Renaissance castle that ranks as one of the most considerable in Nortern Europe, which has around 200,000 visitors every year.
Frederik II's Kronborg is, at the same time, an elegant royal residence and a monumental military fortress, surrounded by bastions and ravelins. The rooms contain collections of Renaissance and Baroque furnishing. Note particularly the 62 meter ballroom, the well-preserved royal chapel, and the statue of the mythical hero Holger the Dane.
After the guided tour there is coffee, and as scenic a return route as can be managed before we arrive back at Dalgas Have at 18.00.

Travel
Information
Copenhagen can be easily reached by air or train. The city is served by the airport of Kastrup, about 10 km southeast of the city. There are trains every 20 minutes (13 min. journey to the Central Station). Information on the airport is available at
http://www.cph.dk/CPH/UK/MAIN/ and train schedules are available at
http://www.dsb.dk/english/

To move around in Copenhagen’s public transport systems (bus, train, metro) a ticket or a clip on a zone card is required. A two-zone card (BLUE) covers the inner city and the conference area. A zone card contains 10 ‘clips’ and each ‘clip’ covers 1 hour of transport within the two zones. It is possible to change between the different transport systems on the same ‘clip’.
The distance from the airport to the hotels as well as CBS requires two blue ‘clips’. The card is transferrable, so several people can clip together, if desired.
The two-zone card can be acquired at the airport (DKR 110,-), any station and most tobacconists.
Busses sell single tickets but not cards. The rebate compared with single tickets is substantial.
