Hiromitsu Hayashida, Vice President

Professor Hayashida teaches Business Communication at Faculty of Commerce of Chuo University and International Marketing at the Graduate School of Chuo University, Japan. His M.C. was earned at Meiji University, Japan. His research, teaching, and publication emphases are in crosscultural communication and management, and global marketing. He has published in the Business in the Contemporary World and Japanese Distribution. Additionally, he has co-authored a textbook English for International Business with Professor Tatsuro Nobu et al.

Dr. Aida Andino Pratts teaches Business Communication at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. Aida was one of the members involved in creating ABC's Caribbean, Central, and South America. She attends the Conventions regularly and has presented on various research topics presentations at ABC annual conventions and regional conferences. She has also worked in the Teaching and Methodology Committee.

Aida completed a B.A. degree in Accounting, a Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), from Inter American University. She received her Ph.D. From Fordham University in Language, Literacy, and Learning.

 

James Archibald, Vice President

Dr. Archibald is currently the director of Translation Studies at McGill University, where he teaches writing techniques for translators, French usage for translators, and translation theory. He has also taught communications and management at McGill. He received a B. A. from McGill; a B. Ph. from Montréal;and L. ès L., M. ès L., Doctorat de 3e cycle from Lille. His research interests are in organizational communication, translation and language policy. He serves as the accredited representative of McGill University’s Office of International Research to the World Summit on the Information Society, and he is a member of several research groups including Orbicom (UNESCO Chairs in Communication) and CAST (Canadian Association of Schools of Translation). A long-standing ABC and MLA member, Dr. Archibald has served on the MLA-ABC Joint Committee since its inception. Dr. Archibald is a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques.

 

Michael Goodman , Vice President

Michael Goodman is Professor and Former Director Graduate Programs in Corporate and Organizational Communication at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Professor Goodman received his BA from the University of Texas at Austin, and his MA and Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Before coming to Fairleigh Dickinson University, he directed the graduate and undergraduate business communication programs at Northeastern University in Boston. He is an Adjunct Professor at Baruch College CUNY, and he taught business communication courses at New York University, New York Institute of Technology, and SUNY at Stony Brook. He was the founder and director of the Conference on Corporate Communication, and founder of the Corporate Communication Institute. He has published widely, including: Corporate Communication for Executives; Working in a Global Environment: Understanding, Communicating, and Managing Transnationally; Corporate Communication: Theory and Practice; Write to the Point: Effective Communication in the Workplace; "Corporate Communication" in Wiley Encyclopedia of EE; a section on consulting in the Handbook of Executive Communication; "Today's Corporate Communication Function" in Handbook of Corporate Communication and Public Relations.

 

Gina Poncini, Vice President

Gina Poncini is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Business and Statistics at the University of Milan, where she teaches English Business Communication in the European Economics degree program. Her research and publications focus on business meetings, intercultural business communication, corporate communication, and communication in the tourism and agro-food industries. She holds a B.S. in Marketing and B.A. in Italian from Central Connecticut State University; an M.A. in English Language and Linguistics from the University of New Hampshire; and a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham (U.K.). She has managerial experience in the international banking sector and conducts training workshops for a range of organizations. She is the author of the book Discursive Strategies in Multicultural Business Meetings (2004), winner of the Association for Business Communication award for Distinguished Publication on Business Communication in 2005.

Dale Cyphert, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the department of management at the University of Northern Iowa. With degrees in speech communication, rhetoric and public relations, Cyphert's career has included managerial positions in public relations, personnel, retail operations, and workplace training. Cyphert teaches courses in business communication, communication management and administers the MBA program's capstone team consulting experience. She frequently offers short courses to business clients through the college's Management and Professional Development Center.

 

Barbara Davis

Barbara Davis is an Associate Professor of Management in the Fogelman College of Business at The University of Memphis. She teaches Business, Executive, and Intercultural Communication. Dr. Davis has most recently received a 2003-2004 Palmer Professorship Service Award, 2002-2003 Baptist Inspirational Woman Award, and the Best Paper Award at the Academy of Business Administration’s 2000 National Conference. She received her doctorate, master’s and bachelor’s degrees from The University of Memphis, The University of Kentucky, and Knoxville College, respectively. Barbara was nominated for the 1996-97 and 1997-98 Distinguished Teaching Award at The University of Memphis.

 

Debbie DuFrene, Vice President

Debbie DuFrene is Professor of Business Communication and Chair of the Department of General Business at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she also serves as Assistant Dean for Assessment.

She holds the bachelors and masters degrees from Nicholls State University, and the doctorate from University of Houston. Debbie has been a member of ABC since 1985 and has served as president, vice-president/program chair, and secretary-treasurer for the ABC Southwest U.S. region. She is a regular presenter at ABC conferences and has published several articles in BCQ, along with a host of other publications. She is coauthor of Business Communication (Cengage, 2008) and Building High Performance Teams (Cengage, 2008) and co-sponsor of the Meada Gibbs Outstanding Teaching Award for ABC.

 

Jackie Jankovich Hartman, Vice President

Jackie Jankovich Hartman is an Assistant Professor in the College of Business at Colorado State University where she specializes in Organizational/Strategic Communication and Management at the undergraduate, graduate, and MBA executive levels. Jackie has taught in Colleges of Business for 20 years at both Kansas State and Colorado State Universities. As a proponent of organizational communication, Jackie has been instrumental in starting an organizational communication track for the Western Decision Sciences Institute. She is also an active researcher, with articles published in such journals as Business Communication Quarterly, Empowerment in Organisations, Performance Improvement Quarterly, and The Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice.
