Winner Selected For First ABC Writing Contest

The Student Awards Committee is pleased to announce the winner of the first annual ABC Writing Contest: Anna Culhane. Anna's entry was submitted by Sandra J. Chrystal, Ph.D., from the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California. Students were challenged to respond to a case based on a true story published in the Wall St. Journal. The entrants responded with two documents: an analysis of the weaknesses of the original "persuasive" memo distributed to the employees and a suggested improved memo.

Anna's entry was judged the best of seven finalists among 31 entries, and has earned her a certificate and a $200 prize. Sponsors of the ABC Writing Contest are Mary Munter and Paul Argenti, Professors at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.

The contest was open to undergraduate business students whose entries were submitted by their instructors. All the entries were read and ranked by the Student Awards Committee and volunteer readers. A panel of businesspersons ranked the finalists' entries, using a similar holistic scale as is used for the GMAT. Business panelists included:

  • Sue Jolly, Fleishman-Hillard, Inc.
  • Karl Keller, The Connectivity Group
  • Henny Marske, Unigroup Worldwide
  • Rick Proskow, Walker Parking
  • Sherry B. Scott, Cavalier Services Inc.
